“A high-profile delegation from Western companies, including cement maker Lafarge SA and bank Natixis SA, came in February on a trip organized by a French business association. Executives raced through a packed meeting schedule that included half of Iran’s cabinet, the country’s customs agency and Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf. Lafarge and Natixis confirm that the trip occurred and say they have no current presence in Iran.” (Wall Street Journal, “As Iran Sanctions Ease, Western Firms Seek a Way In,” 3/27/14)

"A visit to Iran by a large French business delegation drew a stern warning from Washington that most US sanctions remain in place and will be enforced even against allies. The 116-strong French delegation, with representatives from major companies like Total, Lafarge and Peugeot, was the largest of its kind from Europe since a landmark nuclear deal reached with the major powers in November gave Iran limited relief from crippling US and EU sanctions. French employers' union vice president Thierry Courtaigne said the delegation, which arrived in Tehran Monday, wanted to assess the commercial opportunities opened up by the easing of Western sanctions…The French were given a warm welcome by Iranian leaders, who promised new measures to encourage foreign investment, particularly in its oil and gas sector. In a speech to them, Deputy Oil Minister Ali Majedi said Iran's latest five-year plan, running from 2010-2015, calls for $230 billion of investment in its petroleum industry, of which $150 billion would go to upstream activities, according to the official IRNA news agency. He said nearly all downstream projects, for refineries and distribution, would be offered on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) or build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis.” (AFP, “French business push in Iran draws US sanctions warning,” 2/4/14)

“A delegation of about 10 Austrian companies hoping to win post-sanctions business in Iran following its nuclear deal with world powers will visit Tehran this weekend, the Austrian Chamber of Commerce said…A spokesman for the Austrian Chamber of Commerce said its vice president would go with representatives of the 10 companies on the trip to Tehran, which has had good relations for decades with neutral Austria. The chamber did not want to name the firms but Austrian newspaper Die Presse said that rail technology firms Plasser & Theurer and AVL, high-rise engineering firm Doka, engineering consultants ILF and cable car maker Doppelmayr were among them…Doppelmayr said it would have regional representatives at the talks organised by an Austrian trade representative in Tehran, and AVL said it was sending a delegate. The other companies named had no immediate comment.”  (Reuters, “Austrian trade delegation to visit Iran after nuclear deal,” 12/4/13)

"On March 20, 2015, AAG Makina, a Turkish equipment manufacturer, settled one charge of aiding an unauthorized export to Iran with the U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).  According to the charge, in 2011, Satco Corporation, a Canadian company, ordered $47,334 worth of valve parts and a pressure transmitter, which were shipped from the United States to AAG Makina.  The shipped goods were subject to the Export Administration Regulations.  AAG Makina forwarded the items to two Iranian petrochemical companies without U.S. government authorization.  The Turkish company agreed to pay a civil penalty of $23,000 without either admitting or denying the allegations." (Iran Watch, "Turkish Company in Procurement Ring Settles Charge of Illicit Export of Valve Parts to Iran," 3/21/2015).

"The U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) today added 36 companies and individuals to the Entity List…for engaging in actions contrary to the national security or foreign policy interests of the United States. BIS's Office of Export Enforcement (OEE) conducted investigations that revealed the companies and individuals engaged in a series of actions involving illicit shipments of U.S-origin goods to Iran and prohibited end-users in China…The second group of entities (Saeed Talebi, Satco, Satco Corporation, Satco GmbH, Kadin Satco FZE, AAG Makina, and Murat Peker) operated as parts of a procurement ring coordinating the sale and supply of items to Iran in violation of OFAC regulations and the EAR. Saeed Talebi purchased items from U.S. companies and shipped them to Iran via Germany and Turkey. Talebi established businesses in the U.A.E., Germany, and Canada to facilitate his scheme. Murat Peker, an employee of AAG Makina in Turkey, worked with Talebi to facilitate shipments by providing false information to the U.S. Government concerning the final destination of the shipments." "Germany has been Iran’s most important Western trading partner despite the international sanctions on Tehran. In 2012, German firms exported goods worth 2.5 billion euros to Iran. In the nine months from January to September this year, the number was 1.3 billion euros. Haaretz has obtained a list of firms from the German-Iranian Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Tehran, known as AHK Iran in its German abbreviation. The list discusses 'branches, agencies and representatives of German companies in Iran 2012.' AHK Iran, which is partially funded Germany’s Ministry of Economy and Technology, supports German companies in their dealings with Iran. The list, published at the end of 2012, includes the names and areas of operations of 136 German companies that do business with Iran. One company on the list, Bomafa Armaturen GmbH, is a maker of high-pressure valves and specialty valves for use in power stations and industrial plants. According to the company’s website, its equipment is used in nuclear plants as well. Bomafa is represented in Tehran by an Iranian firm, Sinarad Kala Ltd., a supplier of industrial valves and accessories. Another German company represented by Sinarad Kala is Gemu GmbH & Co. KG, based in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg. The firm describes itself as a leading manufacturer of valves, instrumentation and measurement systems. Gemu declined to respond to Haaretz’s queries." "Three foreign currency printing companies have decided to discontinue their businesses in Iran, UANI (United Against Nuclear Iran U.S. group) Communications Director Nathan Carleton told Trend. Earlier this month, UANI has launched a 'Iran Rial Currency Printing Campaign', which targeted companies that print Rial for the Islamic Republic.According to Nathan Carleton, three such companies have stopped their businesses there, as a result of UANI's campaign.'All three of the firms we contacted, 'KBA', 'Flint', and 'DLR', have informed us that they are no longer involved in currency printing in Iran,' Carleton said, noting that UANI applauds the companies for their decisions . . . Flint, an ink and chemical supplier based in Luxemburg, worked in Iran through SunColor Inks Co., and held the patent for a trademarked family of banknote printing products repeatedly requested by the Central Bank of Iran . . . Nathan Carleton noted that no one should be helping the Iranian regime print more currency during this critical time.'We will continue to observe the rial's value, but we do not expect it to improve unless the regime changes course.'"
