UANI Welcomes Iran’s Expulsion From UN Commission On The Status Of Women

(New York, N.Y.) — United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) released the following statement today welcoming the expulsion of the Islamic Republic from the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) by a vote of the UN Economic and Social Council.

“We commend the UN ECOSOC members for recognizing that it is wholly inappropriate for a repressive and misogynistic regime to have its behavior legitimized by holding a seat on the Commission on the Status of Women and applaud the Biden Administration for spearheading the effort to see the Islamic Republic expelled from this body for the remainder of its term. Iran’s place in such a UN organization was a disgrace.

“The international community is slowly opening its eyes to the reality that this incorrigible regime is a pariah that threatens human rights and international peace and security. Its malign behavior has been ignored by too many for too long. Today’s vote is a step in the right direction – and hopefully, for the member states that voted to punish Tehran, only an initial step in holding the regime accountable.

“Nations that espouse a commitment to human rights, especially those that voted today with the U.S., should register their opposition to Tehran murdering women and girls over their refusal to wear a hijab and endure a life of second-class status, domestic violence, and day-to-day oppression by withdrawing their ambassadors from Tehran, downgrading the Islamic Republic’s diplomatic presence in their countries, and sanctioning Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raisi for human rights abuses.”
