UANI Statement On Robert Levinson

(New York, N.Y.) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following joint statement today after the family of Robert Levinson, the longest-held American hostage in history, announced their determination that he died in Iranian custody.

“Bob Levinson’s family is in our thoughts and prayers today. As they grieve his senseless and tragic death at the hands of the Iranian regime, we are hopeful that they will be comforted by the knowledge that he is no longer suffering and that he will never be forgotten.

“Ayatollah Ali Khamenei must immediately return the body of Bob Levinson to his family. Under Khamenei's leadership, Iran held Bob in unspeakable conditions for more than 13 years. It should not hold him captive even in death. Holding a hostage’s body is a hallmark of Iranian terror proxy Hezbollah, and UANI has significant concerns that the regime will deny the Levinsons closure.

“UANI firmly demands that all remaining American and Western hostages be immediately released from captivity and returned safely to their home countries. The regime’s efforts at extortion must end, and the best way to do that is to impose a severe cost on those responsible.”
