UANI Statement on Direct Negotiations between the U.S. and Iran
New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, issued the following statement today regarding purported negotiations between the U.S. and Iran:
The "easing" of sanctions must not be a bargaining chip for Iranian half-measures. The cumulative effect of existing economic sanctions, which have not reached their full potential in either scope or strength, has been Iranian hyperinflation. Policymakers must make clear to the Iranian regime that the final act of economic war is increased and durable hyperinflation i.e. the ultimate demise of the rial, and that this outcome is achievable through an economic blockade on Iran in which countries and companies are forced to choose between doing business with the U.S. and its allies, or Iran. No serious policy should ease sanctions unless or until the Iranian regime agrees to fully and verifiably end its nuclear program.
On multiple occasions, the Iranian regime has used the promise of negotiations to buy time in order to further develop its nuclear program and avoid economic pressure. Now Iran is using this same tactic to buy time during the U.S. presidential elections and inauguration period. U.S. policymakers must not succumb to this tactic.
