UANI Outlines Next Steps for U.S. Maximum Pressure Campaign

(New York, N.Y.) – With Iran set to reduce even more of its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in early November, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is releasing a white paper recommending next steps for the U.S. maximum pressure campaign.

UANI’s new resource, Next Steps in the Maximum Pressure Campaign, details 15 areas where additional action can be taken to strengthen the maximum pressure campaign. The recommendations include: making greater use of authorities for addressing human rights abuses and corruption in Iran; rescinding the JCPOA’s civil nuclear cooperation waivers, which are up for renewal this week; expanding and tightening sanctions targeting Iran’s primary proxy, Hezbollah; and increasing sanctions on Iran’s petrochemicals sector—its second largest export industry after oil—to include every Iranian petrochemical company and complex.

UANI commends the Trump administration for implementing some of the most far-reaching sanctions ever imposed on Iran. UANI’s recommendations are intended to further strengthen the U.S. sanctions architecture.
