UANI Launches Petition To Expel Iran From UN Commission On The Status Of Women

(New York, N.Y.) — Ahead of a critical and uncertain vote tomorrow at the United Nations, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) has launched a petition calling for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s expulsion from the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in light of its systemic violations of women’s rights and brutal punishments for those bravely protesting the regime’s behavior.

The CSW was created to advance women’s rights in the political, economic, social and educational fields, but Iran is one of the worst countries in the world for women’s rights.

In Iran, women face pervasive threats of domestic violence and day-to-day oppression. Iranian law permits marital rape and punishes adultery with the death penalty. Honor killings of women by their families only draw light sentences. And since the death of Mahsa (Jina) Amini in September while in the custody of Iran’s so-called “Morality Police” for purportedly not obeying the Iranian laws mandating the wearing of the hijab, at least 29 women have been killed protesting against the Iranian regime. Furthermore, Iranian security forces have reportedly purposely aimed fire at women’s faces, breasts, and genitals.
