UANI Applauds U.S. Sanctions on Greek Shipper Dimitris Cambis
New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, issued the following statement today regarding new U.S. sanctions imposed on Greek shipper Dimitris Cambis and others:
We applaud the Obama administration for enforcing sanctions on Greek national Dimitris Cambis, due to his enabling of Iran's illegal oil exports. Mr. Cambis has been engaged in international criminal activities and has been directly aiding the Iranian regime in its fraudulent scheme to subvert sanctions. He must be punished for his inappropriate actions.
Mr. Cambis used a network of front companies, including Impire Shipping, Libra Shipping, and UAE-based Sambouk Shipping, to carry out illegal ship-to-ship transfers of Iranian oil on behalf of the regime. Moreover, UANI understands that Mr. Cambis used the Greek-based investment fund, Athene Consulting House, to raise and organize funds for the scheme. We call on the U.S. Government to sanction these additional entities for acting on behalf of the Iranian regime.
Last month, UANI revealed the results of an investigation into the Iranian regime's actions to evade international oil sanctions.
All thirteen of the world's major shipping services have stopped certifying Iranian vessels following UANI's Shipping Campaign, including Bureau Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, Korean Register of Shipping, China Classification Society, and ClassNK. UANI has also announced that Barbados, Hong Kong, Moldova and Mongolia have stopped their reflagging of Iranian vessels.
