UANI Applauds Bipartisan Vote Tightening Restrictions On Iranian Drones

(New York, N.Y.) United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following joint statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6089 — the Stop Iranian Drones Act — on a bipartisan basis. The bill strengthens efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), as well as receiving parts commercially made and used for the construction of UAVs. Iranian UAVs have been used to launch armed attacks targeting U.S. military personnel, commercial vessels in international waters, and civilians and critical infrastructure in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Israel, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

“Iran has increased efforts to develop UAVs, thereby broadening their ability to carry out terrorist attacks outside its borders. These lethal devices have also been supplied to Iran’s proxies across the Middle East, carrying out attacks on civilians and U.S. military personnel, disrupting global commerce, and destroying infrastructure. It is imperative that the U.S. take strong and effective steps to deny the Iranian regime UAVs and, critically, the commercially available parts that it relies upon to manufacture these weapons.

“UANI applauds today’s bipartisan action, which is indicative of the concern on both sides of the aisle about Iran’s malign behavior and doubts about the Biden Administration’s planned sanctions relief should an agreement be reached with the Islamic Republic. It is nonsensical to tighten restrictions on Iran’s drone program and simultaneously affording the regime access to billions of dollars to fund the development of these weapons.”
