UANI Announces Billboard Near Sasol's Louisiana Offices

 

The billboard reads: "BEFORE YOU BUILD HERE, STOP BUILDING IN IRAN. SASOL MUST CHOOSE: LOUISIANA OR IRAN'S TERRORIST REGIME. LEARN MORE @ UANI.COM"

 

The billboard is located on I-10, near Enterprise Boulevard, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Sasol's Lake Charles Chemical Plant is located nearby, at 2201 Old Spanish Trail, in Westlake.

 

On February 2, 2013, the Shreveport Times published a UANI Op-Ed highlighting Sasol's business with the Iranian regime, and Sasol's failure to end that business. Sasol, a South African energy giant, has been approved by the state of Lousiana to construct a multi-billion dollar gas-to-liquids plant that will tap the Haynesville Shale gas formation.

 

At the same time, Sasol maintains an active presence in Iran's energy sector, partnering with a sanctioned Iranian entity to operate two polyethylene plants. Sasol announced in October 2011 its intention to divest from Iran, but has failed to follow through on that commitment.

 

Said UANI CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace:

 

Sasol must make a choice: exit Iran, or exit Louisiana. Sasol has told UANI it will only leave Iran at a time that it can extract maximum value. This is unacceptable, and not what the American people expect. We call on concerned Americans to contact Sasol, and demand that it end its business in Iran.

 

Iran is controlled by a brutal regime responsible for killing American troops and pursuing a nuclear weapon. No responsible company should be doing business with such a regime, particularly while working in the U.S.

 

In January, UANI publicly called on Sasol to immediately end its business in Iran.
