Threat from Hezbollah Remains High on Anniversary of Operation Accountability
(New York, N.Y.) – New revelations about Iranian weapons transfers to Hezbollah show that 26 years after Operation Accountability, Iran’s proxy remains a serious threat, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) said today.
In response to Hezbollah rocket attacks, Israel launched Operation Accountability on July 25, 1993, a week-long offensive designed to make it more difficult for Hezbollah to use southern Lebanon as a base for launching attacks. On Tuesday, July 22, 2019, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon presented new evidence to the U.N. Security Council showing how Iran is using land, air and even water routes to arm Hezbollah with more sophisticated weaponry. “The Port of Beirut is now the Port of Hezbollah,” said Danon, urging that the international community act against Tehran’s regional aggression.
UANI maintains a comprehensive website, Eye on Hezbollah, which is dedicated to analyzing Hezbollah’s role as Iran’s primary terror proxy. Through a comprehensive timeline that begins in 1982, visitors can also explore the key military and political milestones in the development of the group over its nearly 40-year history.
