Iran’s Threat Looms Large As Pompeo Visits Israel
(New York, N.Y.) – On May 13, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will visit Israel. His agenda will likely include discussions over an attempted Iranian cyberattack on Israeli civilian water infrastructure, the Trump administration’s Middle East peace plan, and Iranian presence in Syria.
United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI)’s new resource, The Iranian Cyber Threat, tracks the history of Tehran’s cyber program, its modus operandi, structure, and future. Given Iran’s reported willingness to target critical infrastructure in Israel, the report includes a discussion of Iranian hackers infiltrating a dam in upstate New York, and lessons learned from that cyberattack in 2013.
UANI also maintains a comprehensive analysis of Iran’s cooption of the Palestinian cause, entitled Iran and the Palestinian National Movement. With the regime warning of another intifada as a reaction to an Israeli annexation plan, this report provides an overview of Iran’s role as a primary impediment to peace. UANI has also documented patterns in Iranian intelligence’s infiltration of the Palestinian territories.
Lastly, UANI’s Eye on Hezbollah, at Hezbollah.org, provides an overview of Iran’s primary proxy Hezbollah, discusses the weaknesses of U.S. policy to date, as well as an organizational chart, outlining its personnel and structure. With recent attacks attributed to Israel on Hezbollah installations in Syria, this resource provides context to the Party of God’s regional playbook.
