Iranian Authorities Fired Live Ammunition to Disperse Protesters

UANI Resource Highlights Regime’s History of Violence Against Protesters

(New York, NY) – Protests have erupted in Iran over the regime’s downing of Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752, with Iranians outraged over the government’s handling of the crisis.  As the international community debates its next move, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is releasing an updated analysis of the tactics Iran employs to suppress protests.

UANI’s War on Protesters resource documents the violence, detentions, executions, and obstruction of communications that the Islamic Republic has repeatedly employed throughout its history.  It focuses on the student demonstrations in 1999, the protests against the 2009 disputed presidential election, as well as the latest round of economic unrest from 2017-19.  As the former Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force Qassem Soleimani himself once said to Iraqi officials, “we in Iran know how to deal with protests.”
