Iran Reveals New IRGC “Missile City” And Launch Capabilities

(New York, N.Y.) — This week, the Iranian regime revealed a new Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) base outfitted with massive amounts of cruise and ballistic missiles and “electronic warfare” equipment. The revelation of the new “missile city” accompanies additional satellite images showing Tehran is bolstering its missile launch and striking positions within close proximity to military bases housing U.S. troops scattered throughout the region. Taken together, these developments underscore the lengths to which the regime will go to increase its ballistic missile capabilities despite the limitations imposed by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

United Against Nuclear (UANI)’s resource, Ballistic Missile Program, analyzes the nature and threat of the Iranian regime’s ballistic missile program in the Middle East and globally. Iran has been developing ballistic missile capabilities based on Russia, North Korean, and Chinese technology or weapons systems since the early 1980s, and has amassed the largest and most diverse ballistic missile arsenal in the Middle East.

Since the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal, Tehran’s ballistic missile program continues to pose a serious threat to the United States, its allies, and its strategic interests in the Middle East. Iran has test-fired at least 30 nuclear-capable ballistic missiles since July 2015, despite a UN Security Council resolution, approved along with the nuclear accord, which explicitly calls on Iran to refrain from such activity. Iran has shown no signs of slowing the development of its ballistic missile program, which is inextricably intertwined with its nuclear program. Iran has invested heavily in its missile and space programs and is making every effort to make them more efficient and operational.
