Iran Remains a Spoiler in the Middle East Peace Process

(New York, N.Y.) – As the Trump administration prepares to unveil its Middle East peace plan on Tuesday, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is releasing updated resources, analyzing Iran’s provision of arms and funds to Palestinian militants and its role in inciting and exacerbating the conflict.

Iran provides assistance to a range of Palestinian groups, including Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), Hamas, and Al-Sabireen, and has been attempting to make in-roads in the West Bank.  Last year, Israel thwarted an Iranian espionage network in the West Bank and Gaza.

UANI’s report, From Patron to Proxy: Iran’s Relationship with the Palestinian National Movement, tracks Tehran’s forty-year relationship with the Palestinians, specifically through military support to Palestinian groups, direct and indirect social support for the Palestinians, and infiltration of the Palestinian diaspora.  It details how any peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would contradict Iran’s narrative that Israel is the cause of all instability in the Middle East.

Another UANI report, Iran’s Ideological Expansion, demonstrates how the Iranian regime remains the region’s destabilizer-in-chief, preying on weak governance and economic vulnerabilities to spread its revolutionary dogma throughout the Palestinian territories.
