ICYMI: Sen. Lieberman Condemns Tehran For Hostage Plot & Other Terrorist Activities

(New York, N.Y.) — Today, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman joined Fox Business’ “Mornings With Maria,” where he discussed the recently foiled plot by Iran’s intelligence service to kidnap an Iranian-American journalist in New York and outlined the Islamic Republic of Iran’s historic and continued mistreatment of its own people and other terrorist activities. He said:

“The administration in Washington ought to look at what the Iranian government is doing on the ground. It continues to really repress its own people. It has continued to sponsor terrorist groups, including the militias in Iraq to attack American forces in the region. And, of course, as you said, it did something not just ordinary, but outrageous. It actually planned to kidnap an American citizen, an Iranian-American, because she, a journalist and human rights activist who lives in Brooklyn, New York, was campaigning against the regime in Tehran. I mean, in other circumstances, this might be deemed an act of war – it’s certainly a violation of our sovereignty.”

Senator Lieberman’s comments follow an earlier statement with UANI CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace on the attempted kidnapping in which they stated:

We condemn in the harshest terms the brutal Iranian regime. The action today is a reminder of the willingness of the regime to do anything – including on American soil – to silence its critics. We applaud U.S. law enforcement for taking this action and preventing Iran from harming Masih Alinejad.”

Earlier this year, Senator Lieberman and Ambassador Wallace organized an open letter to the Biden Administration that was signed by current and former U.S., British, Israeli and Saudi officials recommending that “no deal should be consummated with Iran unless and until every American and foreign hostage it has imprisoned is released. Additionally, Iran must cooperate with the investigation into the probable death of Robert Levinson in Iranian custody.”
