Following Corporate March, UANI Asks Eni to Clarify Its Business with Iran

New York, NY - On Tuesday, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) released a letter it sent to the CEO of Italian multinational oil and gas company Eni, regarding the state of Eni's business in Iran. UANI is asking Eni to affirm whether it has ended or will be ending its business in Iran, as an Eni executive indicated at a June 10 protest outside of Eni's New York offices. On June 10, UANI and Iran 180 conducted protests outside of Eni's Madison Avenue offices as part of a series of demonstrations at the offices of major multinational corporations that do business with Iran. The protests were featured in a news segment on New York's Fox 5 News. UANI and Iran 180 drew attention to Eni's ongoing business in Iran's energy sector and its large purchases of Iranian crude oil.

During the protest, Enzo Viscusi, Senior Adviser from Eni, spoke to UANI and Iran 180 and read a statement indicating that Eni will end its business in Iran.

Said UANI President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace:

On June 10, Mr. Viscusi indicated that Eni had ended all of its energy-related business with Iran, including oil development projects and the purchasing of Iranian crude oil. If this is the case, UANI and Iran 180 will applaud Eni for making the responsible, ethical decision to end its business and investment activities in Iran.

UANI and Iran 180 have shown that grassroots organizations can successfully use corporate marches to pressure and shed light on companies that engage in irresponsible business activities. UANI will continue to pressure companies that do business in Iran, and encourage them to pull out of Iran and stop empowering the Iranian regime.
