As
Fiat Announces Profits, UANI Again Calls on Fiat to
Stop Pursuing Profits from Iran
New York, NY
- United Against Nuclear
Iran (UANI) today called
on Fiat to finally put an end to its irresponsible business in Iran.
Fiat is
attempting to re-enter the U.S. auto market while at the same time
doing
business with a brutal terrorist-sponsoring regime that has used its vehicles to
transport missiles and
stage public executions.
Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne, who today announced a
profit for Fiat's U.S. partner
Chrysler for the first time since 2006, has so far been
silent when it
comes to his company's business in Iran. According to Bloomberg
News, "Marchionne
plans to increase Fiat's 30 percent ownership in Chrysler to 51 percent
this
year and has said he aims to sell shares of the U.S. automaker to the
public as
well."
UANI President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, said:
Instead of
boasting about its profits, Fiat should be
accounting for its irresponsible business in Iran. Until Fiat pulls out
of Iran,
the regime will continue to be able to use its vehicles to transport
weapons,
stage brutal public executions, and empower terrorists around the
world. It is
time for Fiat to show it is a responsible corporation.
In April, UANI launched its Fiat
campaign after sending a letter to Mr.
Marchionne explaining UANI's
concerns with Fiat's business dealings in Iran. UANI, along with Iran
180,
subsequently protested Fiat at the
New York International Auto
Show. UANI has also run a series of newspaper advertisements
in New York City's
daily newspapers calling on Fiat to end its business in Iran.
