Eye on Iran's Protests - November 1, 2022

A protest movement is sweeping Iran in the aftermath of the killing of Mahsa Amini at the hands of the so-called “morality police.” UANI’s Eye on Iran’s Protests is a daily news and events round-up to increase awareness of this movement and the regime’s brutal response. As of yesterday, the Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA) estimated that 287 protesters, including 46 children, have been killed in the anti-regime protests. Over 14,000 have been arrested, including 300 students. Despite a warning from the IRGC’s chief commander that the crackdown would intensify, students are continuing to lead the protest movement, staging strikes, sit-ins, and large demonstrations on campuses around the country.

At the heart of the students’ demands is their opposition to the regime’s policy of gender apartheid that is evident in the hijab mandate and gender segregation on school campuses. A common act of civil disobedience on college campuses is eating with the opposite gender in the cafeteria. 

As Unrest Grips Iran’s Schools, The Government Is Going After Children | Washington Post 

Schoolchildren are emerging as a primary target of the regime’s security forces. The average age of those arrested for “rioting” is reportedly under 15. Beatings so intense that they caused internal bleeding, mass detention and confinement in so-called psychological institutes used to force confessions, even instances of rape have been reported. As a result of these tactics, parents are afraid to send their children to school.

Males and females together chastised the so-called “Morality Police” at a university in Tabriz.

A father mourned and honored his 16-year-old son, killed by the regime, as a freedom martyr.

Regime security forces lofted sound bombs in a residential area, but chants against the Islamic Republic could still be heard.

Activists in the U.S. will be staging a sit-in outside the U.S. Capitol starting tonight in solidarity with the freedom movement in Iran.
