The Iranian people calling for change in their country continue to convey to their compatriots and to the world that they will no longer tolerate life under an autocratic state. They clearly discern that the autocratic nature of the Islamic Republic of Iran is not reformable. Undivided, courageous, and committed to change they remain, despite their government’s attempts to deceive them (and the rest of the world) by way of false concessions and overtures to certain political figures who reliably feed the myth of regime moderation and hope for reform.

Several Iranians are at risk of imminent execution today. Iran’s judiciary has reported that 11 individuals have been sentenced to death in connection with the protests, but activists say that dozens of others are facing charges that could result in the death penalty.
Student Day In Iran: Security Agents Attack, Kidnap Student Protesters | Iran Wire
Iran’s security forces responded predictably to the mass protests and strikes that broke out across the country to mark National Student’s Day on December 7th. They raided university campuses and dormitories, arresting and detaining peaceful protesters. Several students were left injured, while others were kidnapped and taken to undisclosed locations.
The U.K. issued a new round of sanctions against mid-level officials responsible for human rights abuses in Iran, many of which do not still hold the office in which the human rights abuses were committed. The list of officials included current Revolutionary Court judges, a Revolutionary Court prosecutor, and current and former prison officials.

Canada issued sanctions against Iranian officials for their involvement in “gross and systematic human rights abuses,” including an IRGC general, an Evin Prison official, an LEF Special Unit commander, a subsidiary firm owned by the IRGC, and a media outlet linked to the Basij.

Acts of civil disobedience in Iran have become a regular occurrence in Iran. Young students stomping on photos of the supreme leader; Iranians posting videos of themselves knocking turbans off the heads of clerics; men and women dining together in contravention of the mandatory gender segregation rules; and thousands of women disobeying the hijab mandate in public are chipping away at the religious foundations of the regime. This complex anti-Islamic Republic of Iran movement has many elements, including secular, feminist, and democratic.
