How ‘Dark Fleet’ Tankers Do Business In The World’s Busiest Shipping Lanes

"[…] The Amor, accused by the pressure group United Against a Nuclear Iran of helping to facilitate the transportation of US-sanctioned Iranian crude oil, was reported in December as having been sold for recycling in India. Kpler data shows the ship loaded oil at two Iranian oil terminals at the end of December and discharged this cargo on 23 January via a ship-to-ship transfer to an unknown vessel in the South China Sea off the coast of Malaysia. It arrived off Batam on 7 February. Scrap-bound tankers often stop off at Batam to prepare for their delivery voyages to ship recyclers on the Indian subcontinent. The island is said to have very capable companies that conduct tank cleaning services so tankers can be delivered to recycling facilities in a gas-free condition."
