"United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) applauded global business leader Lockheed Martin for announcing that it will not pursue business opportunities in Iran. Following press reports that the company was exploring the possibility of selling commercial helicopters to Iran, UANI CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace wrote a letter to Marillyn A. Hewson Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Lockheed Martin Corporation, urging the company to reconsider its reported engagement with the Iranian market. The company responded to UANI, clarifying Lockheed Martin’s position that consistent with U.S. Government policy, the company would not be pursuing business opportunities in Iran." "Global defense technology giant Lockheed Martin says it will not look to capitalize on the Iranian market, despite reports saying it was exploring the possibility of selling helicopters. The company, which is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, released a brief statement regarding Iranian sales in June. 'Consistent with U.S. Government policy, Lockheed Martin is not pursuing business opportunities in Iran.' Reuters reported in June the company was seeking guidance from the U.S. government when it considered selling commercial helicopters through Sikorsky, which Lockheed Martin purchased in 2015." (WaayTV, "Lockheed Martin: 'Not pursuing business opportunities in Iran,'" 7/5/2016).

“Lockheed Martin Corp, the largest U.S. arms maker and parent of Sikorsky, has begun to study the possibility of selling commercial helicopters to Iran, but said the market may be small and the company still needed guidance from the U.S. government. Lockheed, along with Boeing Co , is one of the first major U.S. aerospace companies looking into selling to Iran for the first time since U.S. sanctions were imposed following Iran's Islamic Revolution of 1979. European aircraft manufacturers already are starting to get orders from Iran after sanctions were lifted on Jan. 16. Nathalie Previte, vice-president of sales and marketing for Sikorsky, said the company had received numerous inquiries from existing customers, including leasing companies and operators, interested in possible helicopter operations in Iran.Sikorsky's S-76 and longer-range S-92 commercial helicopters could be options for Iran, Previte said, although she added that the country has little of the offshore drilling activity that drives helicopter demand in the oil and gas sector. ‘I want to understand the U.S. government’s policy about what can be done and what can we not do, and really clear everything with the U.S. government even before we start completing the analysis,’ Previte told Reuters at the Berlin Air Show. Previte's comments marked the first time Lockheed has acknowledged looking into possible sales to Iran.” (Reuters, “Lockheed taking cautious look at Iran helicopter market,” 6/4/2016)

Companies such as China’s Union Pay, Japan’s JCBTurkey’s Iyzico and even Paymentwall (which was postponed) have already taken steps towards the full establishment in Iran. And now according to the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), the Iranian payment system is connecting to Russian and Omani banks.

--

"Central Bank of Iran has rejected the claim by San Francisco-based Paymentwall that it has integrated its payment services into Shetab - Iran’s local payment system. Davoud Mohammad Beigi, Manager of payment systems of the Central Bank, told MNA that the Central Bank has not held any negotiations with Paymentwall over this issue. Managers of other companies active in electronic banking also said the connection of Shetab to Paymentwall cannot happen without coordination with the Central Bank, and this needs to be pursued at a macro level by officials at the Central Bank of Iran." (Mehr, "Paymentwall 'not connected' to Iranian banking system," 04/18/2016).

Paymentwall announced: "With nuclear sanctions lifted from Iran, Paymentwall integrated Shetab (interbank information transfer network system). The Shetab is a unified, electronic clearance system for the entire Iranian banking operations that allows it to facilitate transactions from credit cards, ATMs and point-of-sale (POS) terminals. Paymentwall’s CEO, stated that 'we believe that Iran has a strong business potential, and hopefully we will be able to go live with Shetab soon … [and] [b]y integrating Shetab, we want to allow foreign businesses to bring digital content to Iran and process payments there.'" (Paymentwall Website, "Paymentwall integrates Shetab in Iran," 04/15/2016).

"The chief executive of General Electric Co.’s oil-and-gas business has visited Tehran to explore business opportunities there, the company said, the first known visit by an energy executive of an American company since before Western sanctions were imposed on Iran over its nuclear program. Lorenzo Simonelli, CEO of GE Oil & Gas, visited Iran in recent days and departed on Monday as the company takes another look at the country now that nuclear-related sanctions have ended, a GE spokeswoman said. 'In line with the easing of sanctions, we have begun looking at potential business opportunities in Iran, while fully complying with the rules laid out by the U.S. government,' the spokeswoman said. 'Mr. Simonelli’s visit…was part of our efforts to that end.' ... GE Oil & Gas, based in London, is a subsidiary of its American parent company... GE manufactures oil-drilling and processing equipment, including subsea pumps and pipeline-service units. Mr. Simonelli’s visit included a meeting with a top Iranian oil official, according to a person familiar with the matter. The company wants to sell spare parts, compressors and turbines from its unit Nuovo Pignone, which is based in Florence, Italy, according to a person familiar with the matter... GE Oil & Gas has had a team of 50 in Dubai and Florence preparing to work in Iran for months, examining every detail to ensure compliance with U.S. sanctions, a person familiar with the matter said. That includes insulating any potential Iran business from its U.S. parent and avoiding any use of U.S. technology... Other American companies have shown interest in Iran, but it isn’t clear whether they have sent delegations to the country. Chevron Corp. last year sent officials to an Iran-focused conference in Vienna." (The Wall Street Journal, “GE’s Oil and Gas Chief Explores Opportunities in Iran,” 2/15/2016)

"Nestled in a suburban Washington, D.C., office park, across the street from a shopping mall, a technology company that counts the U.S. Defense Department as its biggest customer is charting out a new frontier: providing Internet service to Iran. But GTT Communications Inc.-headquartered in McLean, Virginia, just a 15-minute drive from the headquarters of the CIA and hired by various unnamed U.S. intelligence agencies and satellite operators-hasn't exactly been touting its new venture. The company has issued no press release about its deal with an undersea cable network that sells Internet services to Iran and other Persian Gulf. (One of the cables comes ashore at the city of Bushehr, home to a nuclear plant that's been the subject of intense debate about its role in Iran's nuclear program.) Instead, the partnership was announced in a single tweet last May; both parties have been largely silent about the deal since then. When contacted by The Daily Beast for details about the deal with the Doha-based submarine cable operator, Gulf Bridge International, a GTT spokesperson said the agreement wouldn't be finalized for a few more weeks. And yet technical data shows that GTT was providing Internet service to Iran for months." (Daily Beast, "Meet the U.S. Defense Firm Supplying Iran’s Internet," 11/1/15)
