UANI Statement on World Economic Forum’s Hosting of Javad Zarif
(New York, NY) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace issued the following statement today on the platforming of Iran’s regime’s Vice President for Strategic Affairs Javad Zarif at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos this week. Last week, UANI wrote to WEF Chairman Klaus Schwab and President Børge Brende, urging them not to invite Iranian regime officials. Ambassador Wallace said:
“UANI condemns WEF’s decision to give another global platform to Javad Zarif, who has served as the chief propagandist for the Iranian regime’s aggression and terrorism and is sanctioned by the U.S. government. Zarif has long worked together with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps—a U.S.-designated terrorist organization—to whitewash Tehran’s brazen human rights violations, terror sponsorship, and export of violence abroad.
“It is particularly galling that WEF chose to host Zarif mere days after the suspicious death of a Swiss national in an Iranian prison. This tragedy underscores the regime’s disregard for human life. By offering Zarif a speaking slot so soon after this unexplained death, the organizers have signaled that the regime’s egregious behavior can be overlooked for some superficial dialogue.
“WEF partners, which include leading companies from around the world with significant business interests in the U.S., risk reputational damage from being associated with Zarif, an apologist for torture and for the October 7 massacre. At a time when WEF’s theme this year is ‘collaboration for the intelligent age,’ inviting Zarif sends the exact opposite message, as he represents a regime which thrives on division and medieval abuses.”
