UANI Impact: U.S. Treasury Department Acts on UANI’s Recommendation to Sanction Corrupt Iranian Magnate

(New York, NY) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Governor Jeb Bush and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement today after the Trump administration announced the biggest Iran-related sanctions package since 2018 targeting corrupt regime-linked shipping magnates.

“UANI applauds President Trump and the U.S. State and Treasury Departments for the massive Iran regime sanctions tranche announced last Wednesday. These designations will counter the ability of Tehran to rebuild, refinance, and reconstruct its military and nuclear programs following the U.S. and Israeli strikes in June.

“UANI in February 2024 was the first to publicly recommend that Hossein Shamkhani, the son of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Ali Shamkhani who is an advisor to the supreme leader, be designated by the United States and its allies for sanctions evasion. Following this recommendation, a series of investigations were set in motion culminating in the U.S. and European Union sanctions against Shamkhani. Additionally, 14 tankers sanctioned as a part of Shamkhani’s network last Wednesday were first identified by UANI as evading sanctions and appeared on UANI’s Ghost Armada list. They are the ELKE, IRIS, KANTI, KYLO, SEABASS, SEATURBO, SOFIA, TIFANI, TONDA SOURCE, TRIS GAS, TRUGEN, VANI, YODAN, and YUG.

“Hossein Shamkhani has sat at the center of a corrupt shipping network generating massive profits for the Iranian regime, Russia, and the Shamkhani family at the expense of the security of America, its allies and partners, and the Iranian people. The oligarchic Shamkhani clan ranks among the most corrupt within the Iranian regime. Their illicit activities and interests cut across multiple sectors and continents. Any person connected to this global network of corruption should be sanctioned without delay.

“UANI has long supported President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign. Despite the Iranian regime’s weakened state, it is critical that maximum pressure continues to deprive the Ayatollah of funds to repress and terrorize at home and abroad.”
