UANI Applauds Reimposition of Snapback Sanctions on Iran

(New York, NY) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Governor Jeb Bush and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement about the successful snapback of international sanctions on Iran:

“UANI applauds the snapback of sanctions on Iran’s regime under U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231. UANI thanks President Trump and his administration for their leadership on Iran. UANI also commends France, Germany and the United Kingdom for refusing to be lured into another trap of endless Iranian stalling by agreeing to an extension of the snapback mechanism for six months in exchange for token gestures from Tehran.

“UANI has long called for invoking the snapback sanctions mechanism—as far back as President Trump’s first term. Snapback is the final nail in the coffin of the failed Iran nuclear deal framework. It is dead.

“Critical U.N. restrictions on Iran’s regime—including the international arms embargo, limitations on its missile program, and a travel ban and asset freeze—are now back in force. This allows the United States and its allies to counter the Iranian regime’s efforts to rebuild its military and nuclear capabilities. Snapback also bolsters the U.S. position of zero enrichment in Iran and enshrines it in international law.

“UANI calls upon the U.N. to immediately reconstitute Security Council Resolution 1737’s Sanctions Committee and appoint a new panel of experts to oversee the successful implementation of the restored international restrictions on Iran. The U.S. and its allies should ensure that Russia and China do not block these steps and that all countries enforce these revived sanctions. The U.S. should be prepared to hold accountable any foreign governments that don’t meet their international obligations in this respect.

“Maximum pressure on Iran’s regime must continue. It is the only way to deprive the regime of resources to advance its nuclear and missile ambitions and foment instability and terrorism around the world.”
