UANI Applauds President Trump for Statement Seeking to Zero Iranian Oil Exports and Threatening Secondary Sanctions on Any Purchasers of Iranian Oil

(New York, NY) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Governor Jeb Bush and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement today after President Trump’s announcement to bring Iranian oil exports to zero:    

“President Trump is right to demand zero Iranian oil exports and we commend his clear threat to impose secondary sanctions on all importing entities. This follows unprecedented actions to sanction two of dozens of Chinese “teapot” refineries in March and April, which account for almost 90% of all Iranian exports. Iran’s entire oil industry is controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – a Foreign Terrorist Organization – which uses oil sales to fund terrorism, anti-Americanism and antisemitism globally. As UANI’s work has consistently revealed, oil sales fund Iranian attacks on Americans and our allies – and it must stop.  

“Iran continues to export 1.6 million barrels per day, according to OFAC’s assessment. As the Wall Street Journal notes in its editorial today, “[t]hat matches May 1 figures from United Against Nuclear Iran, the group of former U.S. Ambassador Mark Wallace whose Tanker Tracker provides the best monthly data we have.”  

“The Ayatollah and his IRGC thugs use these oil revenues to line their pockets – at the expense of the Iranian people – and fund Tehran’s network of lethal anti-American and antisemitic terrorist proxies: from Hezbollah to Hamas and the Houthis. During the Obama and Biden administrations, these terrorist groups were the biggest beneficiaries of the easing of U.S. sanctions – revenue they ultimately used to fund the October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel.    

“President Trump’s explicit warning to Iran and its oil customers draws a line in the sand. The U.S. will no longer tolerate Iranian oil purchases that fund the Ayatollah’s global terrorism. Neutralizing the anti-American and antisemitic threat of the Iranian regime is the essence of the Trump Doctrine. And zeroing the Ayatollah’s money-box for terror – namely, Iranian oil revenues – is the single most critical step toward achieving this goal.”
