UANI Applauds President Trump for Reinstating Maximum Pressure on Iran’s Regime

(New York, NY) – Today United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Governor Jeb Bush and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement after President Trump reimplemented maximum pressure on Iran’s regime:

“We applaud President Trump for signing this important presidential memorandum today aimed at restoring maximum pressure on Iran’s regime. This policy was successful in his first term, and it will further erode the Islamic Republic’s capabilities in the president’s second term.

“UANI has been a longtime supporter of maximum pressure on the Islamic Republic. This deprives the regime of resources it uses to destabilize the Middle East, develop its nuclear weapons program, and terrorize its people.

“Last month, UANI released an action plan for the Trump administration’s first 100 days which recommended measures the president could employ to build out this maximum pressure campaign. It encompasses all instruments of national power—diplomatic, informational, military, and economic—to counter the Iranian regime, the primary source of regional instability, chief sponsor of terrorism globally, and on the verge of rushing toward nuclear weaponization. We also applaud reports that the Trump administration will work with U.S. allies to invoke the snapback sanctions mechanism under U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231, which UANI recommended in its action plan.

“UANI has also for years advocated for tighter enforcement of U.S. sanctions on Iran. The Biden administration was lax in enforcement, particularly with respect to Iran’s key source of foreign revenues, its oil exports. This resulted in the regime acquiring billions of extra dollars, which it used to fund its militia network that waged the deadly October 7 terrorist attacks, advance its lethal weapons programs, and bolster its brutal suppressive machinery against the Iranian people.

“The Trump administration has an opportunity to reverse this trend and weaken the regime even further after its historic losses over the last year. President Trump’s memorandum today brings us one step closer to achieving long-lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.”
