UANI Applauds EU’s Intention to Designate the IRGC as a Terrorist Organization

Since 2008, UANI Has Repeatedly Called on the EU to Designate the IRGC as a Terror Organization. EU Also Designated Individuals and Entities Previously Recommended By UANI for Sanctions.

(New York, NY) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Governor Jeb Bush and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement after the European Union (EU) announced its intention to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization today:

“UANI applauds the EU for announcing its intention to designate the IRGC, the Islamic Republic’s ideological army, as the terrorists that they are. Via the Revolutionary Guards, the Ayatollah’s regime commits terrorist attacks and funds other terrorist organizations and proxies—like Hamas and Hezbollah—with the blood of Americans, Europeans, and countless others on their hands. According to different estimates, the IRGC also led the way in killing as few as around 6,000 and as many as around 30,000 Iranians in less than two weeks of anti-regime protests this month.

For years, UANI has urged European countries to designate the IRGC. Today’s step will make it much harder for the Guards to operate in Europe, where they have not only carried out attacks but also intimidated and harassed members of the Iranian diaspora. It will impose maximum constraints on the IRGC’s ability to nurture homegrown Islamist radicalization and antisemitism in Europe—a strategy it has increasingly pursued in recent years. This designation also signals that the EU will not stand idly by as the regime slaughters its own people.

“We now urge the United Kingdom to proscribe the IRGC, following the lead of the EU, the United States, Canada, and Australia. The IRGC must be denied the ability to operate with impunity abroad.

“Separately, UANI commends the EU for sanctioning several Iranian regime individuals and entities today, including Ruhollah Momeni Nasab, Seraj Cyberspace Organization, and the Masaf Institute. In 2024, UANI previously exposed their activities and recommended they be designated for malign cyberoperations, propaganda, and human rights abuses.”
