ICYMI: UANI Calls for FATF Blacklisting of Iranian Banks to Cut Off Regime’s Terror Funding Apparatus

(New York, N.Y.) - This week, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is meeting in Orlando, Florida to discuss, amongst other pressing matters, “Progress by Iran and other countries that present a risk to the financial system.” United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) has called on the FATF to blacklist the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism as a means of cutting off the regime’s ability to launder money and finance terror organizations.

Writing in the Orlando Sentinel, UANI Advisory Board Members Governor Jeb Bush and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, along with UANI CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, warned that the FATF must blacklist Iranian banks, “as it has repeatedly promised but failed to do — or risk acquiring a reputation as a toothless tiger.” Further, they state that “If Iran’s malign behavior is not met with punishing force, it will not change. The international community must act. The FATF must make good on its threats and finally — after three years of waiting — declare that Iran is a toxic entity in the global financial system and re-impose countermeasures.”

As part of its campaign to influence the FATF meeting, UANI took out a full page ad on Sunday, June 16 in the Orlando Sentinel that had one clear message: “Blacklist Iran Now!”
