Kasra Aarabi, the director of IRGC research at United Against Nuclear Iran, said the repressive measures were most acute in Tehran, the capital, where martial law had been implemented.

“The environment is now suffocating,” Aarabi said. “People I have spoken to say that they are now even minimising their grocery shopping to avoid being out on the street as much as possible.”
