UANI Applauds Obama Administration, Britain, Canada, for Implementing New Sanctions Against Iran, Calls for Sanctioning Central Bank

New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, issued the following statement today following the Obama administration's announcement of new sanctions against Iran:

We applaud the Obama administration, Britain, and Canada for increasing sanctions against Iran. Iran's continued defiance of the international community proves that the U.S. and its allies need to quickly and significantly ramp up the pressure on the regime, to compel it into changing course.

Today's announcement is no replacement, however, for comprehensive sanctions against Iran's Central Bank, and we hope the Obama administration will implement those in the near future. Sanctions against Bank Markazi have the support of 92 U.S. Senators, and have now been introduced through amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. Such sanctions are an important and decisive step to isolate Iran and must be imposed.
