"Former Governor-General (‘Farmandar’) of Tehran Province until September 2010, he was responsible for the intervention of police forces and therefore for the repression of demonstrations. He received a prize in December 2010 for his role in the post-election repression."2

"As the Governor of Tehran, the deputy Governor and Chairman of the Tehran City Security Council, Hossein Tala has played a key role in suppressing protests and peaceful rallies against the results of the 2009 presidential election in Tehran. In addition to not authorizing peaceful gatherings, Hussein Tala was instrumental in ordering the brutal crackdown and arrest of protesters, which killed at least 34 protesters and led to the death of at least five detainees under torture. Hussein Tala repeatedly attributed peaceful protests to foreign countries in interviews with the media. In an interview on 20 February, 2012, Hossein Tala explicitly referred to the disconnection of the telecommunications system in order to disrupt the media coverage of the protests."3
