UANI Condemns Stabbing Of UK-Based Iranian Journalist And Calls For Decisive Action Against IRGC Targets Leading Transnational Repression

(New York, N.Y.)United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement today following the latest UK Counter Terrorism (CT) Police update on three suspects involved in the stabbing of UK-based Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati, who have been identified but flew out of the UK via London Heathrow within hours of the attack last Friday.

Ambassador Mark Wallace commented: “We at UANI vehemently condemn the attack on UK-based Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati, which was evidently a targeted and fully orchestrated brazen act of transnational terror on British soil. Pouria is a dear friend of UANI and we wish him a speedy recovery.

“We simply cannot ignore the fact that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been explicitly and directly issuing death threats to Pouria since the outbreak of anti-regime protests in Iran. This follows two foiled IRGC terror plots which sought to kill two UK-based Iran International TV journalists using the same modus operandi as the attack on Pouria. According to UK security officials more than 15 Iranian regime-backed terrorist attacks in the UK were foiled in 2022 alone. The IRGC is similarly openly undertaking operations to assassinate, terrorize, and murder Iranians and former US officials in the United States.

“The fact that the IRGC – and the Iranian regime more broadly – is so brazenly undertaking acts of terrorism and transnational repression on British and American soil reveals an abject failure in deterrence policy towards the Islamic Republic of Iran. The UK government’s refusal to proscribe the IRGC as a terrorist organization – despite clear evidence of terrorist attacks on UK soil and its efforts to nurture homegrown Islamist radicalization – has only emboldened its terrorist commanders and increased threats to UK citizens.

“But proscribing the IRGC as a terrorist organization alone will not prevent the Iranian regime from carrying out such acts of terror abroad, as can be seen in the US. Decisive action is the only means that can deter the IRGC from operating on US and UK soil. We know the key IRGC commanders plotting these attacks, we know the command-and-control rooms where these operations are planned, and we know the key regime entities involved. UANI is calling for joint US-UK military action against the key IRGC figures, command-and-control centers, and entities involved in plotting terrorist attacks on UK and US territory.

“The message needs to be clear to the Iranian regime: if the IRGC continues its terrorist and transnational aggression operations on British and American soil, the UK and US will come after you.”
