UANI Applauds Standard Chartered Bank for Pulling Out of Iran
New York, NY -On Thursday, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) applauded Standard Chartered Bank, Britain's fifth largest bank, for ending its business in Iran.
Standard Chartered had an active presence in Iran, and was listed on UANI's Iran Business Registry. In recent discussions with UANI, Standard Chartered pledged that effective the end of the first quarter of 2012 it "no longer has a presence in this country."
UANI is satisfied with Standard Chartered's statements and will list it as withdrawn on its Iran Business Registry.
Said UANI President, Ambassador Kristen Silverberg:
We applaud Standard Chartered for ending its business in Iran. Standard Chartered has made a responsible and noteworthy decision, to adhere to the international banking blockade on Iran. We call on other banks around the world to follow Standard Chartered by pulling out of Iran, and completely cut off the regime's access to international markets.
