UANI Applauds President Trump’s Redesignation of the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization

(New York, NY) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Governor Jeb Bush and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement today after President Trump signed a new Executive Order redesignating the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO):

“We applaud President Trump for his decision today to redesignate the Houthis as an FTO. UANI in its recommended action plan for the Trump administration’s first 100 days suggested that the president redesignate the Houthis as an FTO. This will now provide the U.S. government additional authorities to hold the Houthis accountable for their threats to international commerce and U.S. allies and partners.

“Critically, the Executive Order also states that it is U.S. policy to eliminate Houthi capabilities and operations and to deprive it of resources. Even with a ceasefire in Gaza, the Houthis will remain an enduring threat, and it is welcome news that the Trump administration is laying the groundwork for a more robust policy.

“Sanctions alone, defensive interceptions, and strikes on Houthis radar installations will not deter the Houthis. The U.S. military should undertake decisive military strikes on Houthi leadership and its patron Iran’s regime to more effectively deter the terrorist organization.”
