What They’re Saying About the U.S.–Iran Talks—June 29, 2026
U.S.
President Donald Trump | Truth Social
“IRAN HAS REQUESTED A MEETING. IT WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW IN DOHA!”
President Donald Trump | Truth Social
“Highest Poll Numbers Ever. Even Higher than Election Day, November 5th. This despite the fact that, IRAN WILL NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!”
President Donald Trump | Truth Social
“WTI CRUDE - $69, and heading down. This is less than it was prior to the start of the Denuclearization of Iran!”
National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett | Press Interview
“We’ve got pipelines in Saudi Arabia and UAE that, before the war, were really operating at below capacity. And because the Straits were closed, then they’ve come up with ways to operate closer to capacity. There’s been a big drawdown in inventories globally, and so I think basically once traffic is really moving, we go back to more than 100 ships a day. Then you’re going to see prices even come down from there because there’s going to be so much oil pouring out. In the meantime, you know right now we got the Memorandum of Understanding. Vice President is on the case. The President has said we’re going to have some more talks tomorrow. My view is that what’s going to happen between now and the 60 day Memorandum of Understanding discussion is that they will be testing the resolve of the president now and then. And nobody should ever try to test the resolve of Donald Trump, and there was a little bit of a test this week and of course he delivered a pushback that has them back to the table. The bottom line, the macro picture, is the Straits are going to be open, Iran’s not going to have a nuclear weapon, and the global oil market is going to be safer and there’s going to be more oil than you’ve ever seen before. And risk premia in the Middle East will go down because of the peace that President Trump has negotiated.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt | Comments to Press
“Iran has requested a meeting this week. So Special Envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner will be flying to Doha for high level meetings this week as we continue to discuss the Memorandum of Understanding. On the sidelines of those high level talks will be the technical talks, so as far as we’re concerned, we’re holding up our end of the ceasefire. Violence will be met with violence . . . The President obviously wants to see the peace process play out, and the Iranians would be best to sign a good deal with the United States of America. Because the President has proven he’s unafraid to use the might of our military—look at Operation Midnight Hammer, look at Operation Epic Fury. Either way, though, the United States of America wins. If the peace process plays, this MOU continues, gas prices will continue to tumble. We’re seeing crude is lower than it was prior to the start of this excursion, as the president calls it. Or, if Iran chooses to be a bad actor, they will prove themselves to be the pariah of the Middle East. They have totally alienated themselves from their Gulf and Arab partners in the region. And the United States of America has the best and strongest military in the world, The President retains the right to use it.”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries | X
“The reckless war of choice in Iran has been a disaster for the American people. Why do House Republicans continue to back it? They don’t give a damn about you.”
Senate Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Jack Reed | X
“Trump’s Iran war has been a disaster. @Markzandi has the receipt breaking down how Trump’s reckless war in Iran has already cost each American household $1,000 this year… and the costs continue to mount.”
“Very pleased to hear that the Trump Administration, led by Secretary Rubio, working with Lebanon and Israel has reached an agreement between the parties that will hopefully over time allow Lebanon and Israel to live in peace and prosperity. This is a major achievement by Secretary Rubio, his team and the representatives from Lebanon and Israel. I appreciate President Trump’s hands-on approach to making this happen. As always, Hezbollah can be the spoiler. But this agreement is a giant step forward. Well done to all.”
Sen. Thom Tillis | Press Interview
[Question: “Ultimately, do you think this Memorandum of Understanding is a good deal, and do you have any idea who controls the Strait of Hormuz right now?”]
“I think that’s up for debate, because we’ve seen some of the kinetic actions there. At a fundamental level, I just simply don’t trust the Iranian leadership, the mullahs, to live up to their commitments. We’re already seeing it . . . how many ceasefires have we had over the past several months? And this one was supposed to be keyed to a 60-day agreement. So there’s a lot of work to be done, and I just fundamentally do not trust the Iranians. I don’t believe that they will be any more faithful to this agreement than the JCPOA unless it is buttoned down tight. And I just don’t see that happening in 60 days.”
Sen. John Kennedy | Press Interview
“Iran is like a really old man who can’t afford to catch a cold. After 60 days or whatever, I think ought to go back in and go Catwoman on them.”
IRAN
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the airstrikes carried out by the terrorist U.S. military on the evening of Friday, June 27, 2026, targeting several locations along Iran's southern coastline. . . . Simultaneously, the apartheid Zionist regime, in coordination with the United States, launched an attack on Lebanon, which similarly constitutes a clear violation of Clause 1 of the said Memorandum of Understanding. While underscoring Iran's inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that the Islamic Republic of Iran will defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests with full capability.”
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi | X
“[French President Emmanuel] Macron has said that he is cooperating with his partners in demining the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, demining is carried out solely by Iran and by no other country, and we fundamentally do not permit any such thing. The situation is sensitive and complex. We strongly advise France not to complicate it further with its provocations.”
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi | X
“During the trip to Muscat, the first meeting of the Hormuz Joint Committee was held with Abdulaziz Al-Hinai, Oman's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. While reviewing current issues related to the Strait, we exchanged views on the future management of the Strait within the framework of paragraph five of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and the sovereign rights of the coastal states.”
ISRAEL
“STRUCK IN RESPONSE TO CEASEFIRE VIOLATIONS: 3 Hezbollah command centers in the areas of Nabatieh and Mayfadoun in southern Lebanon. Additionally, troops struck and dismantled a launcher that Hezbollah continued using to attack them.”
Defense Minister Israel Katz | Comments to Press
“People should not hold their breath wondering where the next place will be from which Israel will withdraw in Lebanon, because it will not happen until Hezbollah is disarmed. We have no territorial ambitions in Lebanon, but until Hezbollah is disarmed, we will not withdraw a millimeter. . . . When President Trump linked Iran and Lebanon, we stopped bringing down buildings in Beirut. The linkage between the arenas is an American interest, and these are the constraints of the partnership with the United States. . . . If there had not been a linkage between the Lebanon and Iran arenas, Hezbollah would have collapsed. . . . It could happen even within two days. We have targets to strike in Iran, and the IDF is prepared and on alert, but we will not interfere with the US president’s course of action vis-à-vis the Iranians.”
GULF STATES
“Iran is a neighboring country, and there must be understandings between us and Iran. What has happened is, of course, unacceptable, whether it affected us or our brothers in the Gulf states. We are in direct and continuous contact and maintain ongoing coordination, and there is a shared vision regarding engagement with Iran through dialogue in order to resolve these issues through diplomatic and peaceful means. Ultimately, we want to see a prosperous region. We want to see a prosperous Gulf, and we also want to see a prosperous Iran cooperating constructively with the Gulf states, with a high level of trust and cooperation replacing the legacy left by these wars. We are working intensively with our brothers in the Gulf Cooperation Council.”
“It is unacceptable that, despite a ceasefire being in place, 100 people have been martyred in Lebanon over the past three days and the attacks continue by Israel. The agreement must be respected, with issues addressed through diplomatic means. The Untied States is currently making significant efforts on the diplomatic track, and we hope these efforts will prove successful.”
“The Joint Committee of the Omani-Iranian Commission held its first meeting in Muscat regarding the Strait of Hormuz to exchange views on the future management of the Strait and related matters. . . . The two sides discussed ways to enhance coordination on issues related to the Strait of Hormuz in a manner consistent with the common interests of the two countries and their sovereignty, affirming their commitment to international law, and exploring frameworks for cooperation in the fields of navigation and maritime services, based on their status as the two states sharing the Strait, and in light of the existing bilateral and international understandings.”
EUROPE
French President Emmanuel Macron | X
“Delighted to welcome His Majesty Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman, for his first official visit to France. . . . We are working together for de-escalation in the Middle East. We have decided to collaborate jointly, in coordination with our partners, on demining the strait to secure maritime routes and ensure free and unconditional passage through the Strait of Hormuz.”
UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper | X
“I strongly condemn the recent attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and in the Strait of Hormuz. These reckless attacks, including on international shipping, are putting civilian lives at risk, and curtailing freedom of navigation. The implementation of the US–Iran agreement is essential to keep people safe and ships moving.”
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul | X
“Good and constructive talk this evening with my [Israeli] colleague @gidonsaar on the Israel–#Lebanon framework. The agreement is as a key step toward stability & must now be implemented in full: it opens a real opportunity for lasting de-escalation in this decades-long conflict.”
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul | X
“Good exchange with my [UAE] colleague @ABZayed on security arrangements in the #Gulf region and risks posed by neighboring Iran. We agreed: freedom of navigation in the Strait of #Hormuz must not be compromised & recent attacks on #Bahrain & #Kuwait are unacceptable.”
TURKEY
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan | Speech
“We are closely monitoring the attacks—particularly those targeting Lebanon—that seek to undermine the agreement which has brought a much-needed sense of relief to our region and the world. We look to your support in ensuring that the provocations of the genocidal network, which cannot tolerate our region achieving stability and even views such stability as a threat to its own security, are not allowed to succeed.”
