ICYMI: UANI Leadership Calls For Unity Following Soleimani Death

Last week marked a pivotal moment in U.S. and Iran relations, as President Donald Trump’s decision to strike Qassem Soleimani, the “shadow commander” of Iran’s IRGC-Quds Force, dominated the news. On Friday, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace discussed with BBC Radio the consequential week in U.S. foreign policy. He stated, “I think this is one of the most consequential moments in foreign policy, certainly in the region, if not for a generation certainly for some time. The reality is that Qassem Soleimani was one of the most destabilizing, violent figures in the world… so to the extent that he is no longer with us is a symbolic and an important strategic victory.”

UANI Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman also discussed Soleimani’s death. Last Sunday, he authored an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal titled “The Democrats and Iran” where he called on both political parties to unify and stand with President Donald Trump in his decision to take decisive action against Iran and the elimination of the leader of a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. Since then, he has made multiple appearance on cable news. On Saturday, Senator Lieberman appeared on Fox News Channel’s Journal Editorial Report and said, “Everybody by now knows the record. You can hold him responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans directly.”

Last Monday, Senator Lieberman appeared on Fox News’ Your World With Neil Cavuto, Fox Business Network’s Mornings With Maria Bartiromo, Fox News Radio’s Brian Kilmeade Show and Bloomberg‘s Balance of Power.

In regard to Soleimani’s death, in an appearance on Fox News Channel’s Your World With Neil Cavuto, Senator Lieberman said, “What he got from the U.S. which was death, he deserved for years and years of murdering Americans and our allies in the Middle East. And a lot of innocent civilians in places like Syria. There's no question that if he stayed where he was, he would have continued to murder. Here's a more basic principle pulling back. You have a great nation. We have a mighty military. Iran is an enemy. Soleimani led the actions against us.”

When asked by Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business Network about the call for bipartisanship in his recent op-ed, Senator Lieberman said, “That is the point here, that ultimately, and this is what has happened in a lot of domestic policy, now really dangerously in foreign policy you got to put America first, you got to put the country first.”

When asked on Bloomberg about Iran being stronger or weaker following Soleimani’s death, Senator Lieberman said, “Much weaker today after the attack on general Soleimani. The frame of mind of the leadership group at the top has got to be full of more fear than they had a week ago.”

Senator Lieberman also spoke to Brian Kilmeade on Fox News Radio about the U.S. military strike that killed Qassem Soleimani. When asked on the Brian Kilmeade Show about not condemning the President, Senator Lieberman said, “Because what the President did in taking out Soleimani was unconventional and bold. So, inevitable some people would question it. But I just get so upset when I see all the people raising questions are the Democrats and all the praises coming from the Republicans.”

Other UANI Advisory Board Members, including Ambassador Nikki Haley, Norman Roule and Sergeant Robert Bartlett were also active on the television circuit.

Last Monday, Ambassador Nikki Haley appeared on Fox News’ Hannity to discuss the failed Iran nuclear deal, President Trump’s decision to protect American assets and called for an end to partisan politics in relation to foreign policy. She stated, “You tell that to the 608 American families who lost a loved one. Tell that to the military members who lost a limb. This was something that needed to be done and should be celebrated. I will tell you right now, partisan politics should stop when it comes to foreign policy. This is about America united. This is a moment of strength for The United States. … You have to look at the fact that the general provisions of the Iran deal were going to end in October. We are going towards a time where we have to bring them to the negotiating table anyway. What the president did left the Iranian regime flat footed. They didn't see this coming. They thought they could continue to do their multiple strikes.”

On Thursday, in an appearance on Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends, when asked about his thoughts on Soleimani’s death, UANI Advisory Board member, Sergeant Robert Bartlett said, “It’s about time. He’s been spreading terrorism across the world for years. You can see it spray-painted on the outside of our embassy, ‘Soleimani is out leader’, it was obvious he needed to go a long time ago.”

In an interview with i24 News on Monday, UANI Senior Advisor Norman Roule responded to the rise in tensions in Iraq with one question: “Will the Iranians choose to end the ongoing threat to US forces and personnel in the region?” Roule also was quoted by Sinclair saying, “Iran is facing sanctions at a time when it is also enduring unprecedented, simultaneous ecological, demographic, political, social, and economic problems -- for which it has no policy solution … So by denying [the regime] money, it's denying it the easy way out of handling the demands of its people. So inevitably this will undermine the stability of the regime and produce some sort of a conversation.”
