Trump should forget Greenland and act on Iran

“People think that the regime has invested huge sums in its overseas proxies, but its domestic security apparatus is many times more extensive,” said Kasra Aarabi, an Iran analyst at the United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) think tank. “Since the 12-day war with Israel and America, the Ayatollah has de-centralised the domestic security command structure, to give it more resilience. He and his fanatical son, Mostafa, have also purged the ranks of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps to empower the zealots and make the force even more radical. They are more brutal and effective than ever before.” . . . Aarabi, the Iran analyst, speaks regularly to sources within the regime. He believes that another war is inevitable. “The only thing deterring the Ayatollah right now is presence of Benjamin Netanyahu, who lives rent-free in his head,” he said. “The regime is more terrified of Netanyahu than any other world leader, including Trump. Their strategy is to wait until the Israeli election in October and hope Netanyahu loses. Then, after building their strength, they will launch another round of escalation.” The decision, Aarabi added, is simple. “Either the West acts now, while the regime is still weak, paranoid, wounded and trying to rebuild, or it will have to face a bolstered regime that has learned lessons and become more radical, more determined to exact ideological vengeance. It is not a case of war or peace. It is a case of fighting now or later, when it will be worse.”
