UANI Supports International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia
(New York, NY) – On this International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community worldwide.
Ambassador Mark Wallace, CEO of UANI, and Omid Iravanipour, UANI’s Advisor on Human Rights and LGBTQ+ Issues said: "We condemn all forms of discrimination, violence, and persecution based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the Islamic Republic of Iran whose theocracy and brutal patriarchal system oppresses queer communities, and women, the most.
"With its inhumane punishments including capital punishment for intimate same sex relations, the Islamic Republic remains one of the most dangerous places in the world to be queer. The axis of resistance is the axis of homophobia, and it is crucial for LGBTQ+ rights advocates in the West to recognize the connection between the Islamic Republic and its partners Hamas, the Houthis, and Hezbollah and their collective and brutal repression of queer people.
"No one should live in fear or face violence because of who they are. We call on governments and leaders to uphold the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, to protect them from harm, and to work towards creating inclusive societies where everyone can live free from discrimination and prejudice.
"Together, let's continue to advocate for a world where love, acceptance, and respect prevail for all."
