On September 19, 2007, Kunlun Energy was added to the Florida State Board of Administration List of Prohibited Investments (Scrutinized Companies) due to its involvement in Iran. As of March 9, 2021, Kunlun Energy remains on the SBA list of prohibited investments.

"In 2009, CalSTRS designated Sinopec and its related companies, including CNPC Hong Kong, as “Divested and Restricted.” In February 2010, CNPC Hong Kong changed its name to Kunlun Energy Co. Sinopec, and all its subsidiaries, including Kunlun Energy Co., remain “Divested and Restricted” in 2020."

In 2020, the U.S. state of Mississippi listed Kunlun Energy on its state lists of Companies Doing Business with the Iranian Petroleum/Natural Gas, Nuclear and Military Sectors, rendering it ineligible for investment and/or state contracting.

Two of the companies, Kunlun Shipping Co. and Kunlun Holding Co., which the U.S. accused of transporting Iranian oil, are linked to CNPC." Kunlun Energy Co.’s parent, Sinopec, is linked to Iran through oil exploration contracts and interests, refining and commercialization of gas processing products.

KLCC is listed on the June 4, 2019 and July 12, 2019 Florida State Board of Administration list of prohibited investments (Scrutinized companies) for Iran related business.

Kunlun Energy Company Ltd (FKA: CNPC Hong Kong Ltd) is listed on the Alaska Retirement Management Board March 2019 and June 2019 list of companies doing business with Iran.

In 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Kunlun Energy was listed on the Texas Pension Review Board List of Scrutinized Companies doing business in Iran pursuant to Chapter 807.054, Government Code.
