UANI Statement On Germany’s Outlawing Of Hezbollah

(New York, N.Y.) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following joint statement today after Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior announced it had banned all Hezbollah activity. The announcement coincided with morning raids by German law enforcement to detain suspected members of the terror group.

“Hezbollah has long used Germany as an ideological breeding ground, safe haven, and a key base of operations for espionage, terror attacks, fundraising, and other criminal activity. Berlin’s ban on Hezbollah is therefore a very important step in curbing the group’s influence and its patron Iran’s power projection beyond its borders.

“Hezbollah does not distinguish between its military and political wings. Nor should anyone else. Accordingly, other European countries – particularly France – and the rest of the international community must end their fictitious distinction between the Party of God’s “wings” and follow Germany’s example by banning the group in its entirety.

“UANI commends the Trump administration’s efforts to facilitate this designation, particularly by Ambassador Richard Grenell. Today’s decision is an example of a growing transatlantic consensus on the threat Iran and its proxies pose to the international community.”

UANI’s website, Eye on Hezbollah, chronicles Hezbollah’s evolution from a small radical militia in 1982 to a virtual state within a state in 2020. With this designation, Germany joins the U.S., the United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, Japan and the Netherlands in designating Hezbollah’s entire organization as a terrorist entity.
