"The weapons were found onboard planes operated by Ukraine’s UM Airlines, which officially partners with Iran’s Mahan Air. The United States has sanctioned both carriers for providing support to Iran’s terror network, including the transportation of weapons and resources to the terror group Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy group. Business between UM and Mahan reached its highest levels following the Iran nuclear agreement, when the Obama administration lifted longstanding economic sanctions on Iran. Removing the sanctions paved the way for the airline partnership and the multi-billion dollar trade deals between Iran, Boeing, and Airbus. Mahan officially entered the Ukrainian marketplace in 2016 and now partners with UM on daily flights into Tehran." "Several European airlines aim to resume their flights to Iran following a landmark nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, the state-owned IRAN daily reported on Thursday. The newspaper quoted Mohammad Khodakarami, deputy head of Iran's civil aviation authority, as saying British Airways officials visited Tehran on Tuesday to discuss resumption of flights. He did not elaborate. Khodakarami also said both Air France and Dutch flagship KLM have already expressed their readiness to resume flights to Tehran. Air France said last month it would resume flights to Tehran for the first time in more than seven years starting in April. A KLM spokesman said the carrier always looks for opportunities for new destinations but has not yet make a decision about resuming flights that were suspended in 2013. 'At this moment there are no concrete plans to open Tehran. KLM follows the current situation concerning the lifting of sanctions against Iran closely,' spokesman Joost Ruempol said. BA also has not announced any firm plans to return to Iran, though Willie Walsh, the chief executive of its parent International Airlines Group, reportedly told a recent conference the airline is interested in flying to Tehran soon." September 2017 - British Airways, the UK’s flagship carrier, has opened a new office in Tehran, the head of Asia Pacific and Middle East Sales at BA said. “Iranian customers can choose their flights from Tehran to 200 destinations under the network of British Airways,” IRNA also quoted Robert Williams as saying on Saturday. "British Airways plans to resume flights to Tehran Thursday evening, the latest restored link between the West and Iran since the lifting of nuclear sanctions in January. A Boeing 777 wide-body jetliner is scheduled to take off from London around 9 p.m., bound for Tehran, the first flight into Iran by the airline since 2012. It suspended service then amid tightening Western sanctions over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, which curtailed demand for travel to the country. British Airways plans to operate the service six times a week. The airline said the new service had received “a huge amount of interest.” (The Wall Street Journal, "British Airways Flights to Iran Set to Resume," 09/01/2016). -- "The long-awaited resumption of British Airways flights to Iran has been delayed until September. The six-weekly direct service to Tehran from London Heathrow was due to start from July 14 but has now been pushed back due to 'some technical issues'. News of the route reopening in February was greeted with enthusiasm by British travellers, with tour operators offering trips to Iran registering a surge in interest. But now those keen to travel on the airline’s first direct flights to the country since 2012, when political tension was peaking following the severance of diplomatic relations with the West, will have to wait. A spokesperson for British Airways told Telegraph Travel that Tehran remains an importation destination for the airline." (Daily Telegraph, “BA postpones its relaunch of flights to Iran,” 6/22/2016)

"The opening of a new air corridor between two neighboring countries rarely captures the attention of the world's media. But when Emirates Airline launched flights from Dubai to Mashhad on 1 September, everyone knew the UAE flag-carrier was thinking about much more than its own bilateral links with Iran. Air traffic between the two countries has been rising since long before July's landmark nuclear agreement... FlyDubai has followed suit by expanding its Iranian network from two to nine destinations this year, while Etihad has more than doubled frequencies on its Abu Dhabi-Tehran route. Much the same script is being followed across the water in Doha, where flag-carrier Qatar Airways has grown seat capacity on its three Iranian routes by 30% since last summer." "A direct Tehran-Berlin flight re-launched after 10 years during a ceremony attended by Iran's Ambassador to Germany Ali Majedi at Berlin's Schoenefeld Airport, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported Feb. 23. German company Germania Airlines, which has signed an agreement with Iran's Civil Aviation Organization to launch five weekly flights to Iran from Germany, inaugurated its first direct-flight from Berlin to Tehran on the evening of Feb. 22. Majedi said that re-launching direct flights between Iran and Germany capitals is an important development, adding there has been growing demand for flights between the two countries as a result of the expansion of German-Iranian economic ties. Germania Airlines is going to conduct two weekly flights from Berlin to Tehran and two from Dusseldorf to Tehran as well as one flight per week from Hamburg to Mashhad."
