UANI Statement On U.S. Military Strikes Against The IRGC

UANI Applauds Strikes on IRGC in Syria and Calls for Further Action on IRGC Targets in Iran

(New York, N.Y.) — United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace issued the following joint statement today on the U.S. airstrikes ordered on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and terrorist proxy bases in eastern Syria:

“UANI applauds President Biden’s decision to order the U.S. military to attack and destroy IRGC targets in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province, from which U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria have repeatedly come under fire in missile and drone attacks. The area is a hotbed of IRGC and IRGC proxy terror activity and serves as the base of operations for two heavily-armed and indoctrinated militias, the Shia Afghan Fatemiyoun and the Pakistani Shia Zeinabiyoun, both of which were specifically formed by the IRGC to target Israel.

“Now is the time for President Biden to ensure that the IRGC and its proxies are unable to launch any further attacks against America or threaten Americans abroad. For too long, the IRGC and its terrorist network have targeted and killed Americans without consequence. While we applaud these strikes on the IRGC in Syria, we reaffirm the importance of our call to strike IRGC targets in Iran. The United States must hold the IRGC accountable and seriously degrade its capacity to injure or kill Americans either directly or indirectly through its proxies.

“This is the lesson that Israel has learned vis-à-vis Hamas, which is supported by Iran’s regime and was reportedly the beneficiary of IRGC training ahead of the October 7 barbaric attack against Israelis of all ages that killed more than 1,400 men, women, and children – including at least 33 Americans. There can be no accommodation with terrorist groups. It should not be forgotten that the IRGC also brutally terrorizes and murders the Iranian people as they continue to fight for a free Iran."

Senator Lieberman and Ambassador Wallace continued: “The financial sanctions also imposed by the Biden administration today are, of course, warranted and a step in the right direction. We applaud today’s action against Hamas-linked officials and financial networks and urge the Biden administration to take additional steps immediately, including sanctioning Iran’s foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian – a card-carrying member of the IRGC’s Basij paramilitary force – as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, who reportedly participated in planning meetings with Hamas prior to the October 7 attacks. It is unconscionable that Abdollahian was permitted entry to the United States this week to spew hatred, lies, and threats against the United States and Israel from the podium of the United Nations, and the Biden administration needs to take swift and decisive action against him for his direct involvement in terror campaigns against the U.S. and Israel.”
