ICYMI: Will Hezbollah Open A Northern Front Against Israel?

(New York, N.Y.) — Last week, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) hosted an expert webinar panel discussion on the potential for the Iranian regime’s proxy Hezbollah opening a northern front against Israel. The panel was moderated by UANI Director of IRGC Research Kasra Aarabi and featured UANI Senior Advisor Zohar Palti, former director of the Policy and Political-Military Bureau at Israel's Ministry of Defense and former head of the Mossad's Intelligence Directorate, alongside UANI Director of Israel, Lebanon, and Syria Research David Daoud.

Following the October 7 terrorist attacks against Israel by Iran-backed Hamas terrorists, the Iranian regime has consistently threatened a multi-front attack on Israel. Since then, Hezbollah has conducted repeated strikes against Israel, prompting Israeli military responses on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.

Nevertheless, Daoud believes that Hezbollah prefers to avoid a full-scale conflict with Israel, given its domestic political constraints. However, he noted that, ultimately, that decision lies with the Iranian regime. Palti observed that Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah is wearing multiple hats – Lebanese, jihadi, and Iranian, as the representative of the Iranian regime in Lebanon. As such, Nasrallah will have to factor in these overlapping roles and consider his dissatisfaction with the 2006 Israel-Lebanon War before initiating another phase of the current conflict.

For Hamas and Hezbollah, the surprise factor of the October 7 attack on southern Israel – as well as the taking of Israelis hostage – has been viewed as a significant success that bolsters the terror groups’ portrayal of military dominance. Time will tell whether these Iranian proxies will have continued “success” or if Israel will succeed in neutralizing the threats of Hamas and Hezbollah.
