ICYMI: UANI Infiltrates Iran Oil Show

(New York, N.Y.) — United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) has repeatedly infiltrated the Iran Oil Show in Tehran, most recently in May 2023, to document which companies attended and their countries of origin. This year, UANI obtained the 22-page oil exhibition handbook that listed all advertised Iranian and international attendees. UANI’s activities and findings were reported by Fox Business, Iran International, and the Jerusalem Post.

The handbook identified several European companies attending the event, including those from Spain, Germany, and Austria. However, a vast majority of attendees represented Russian and Chinese firms. UANI contacted the German manufacturer of turbomachines, JCL plant solutions, whose presence was identified and confirmed by a UANI affiliate at the Oil Show. To date, JCL has refused to respond to the letter. Other companies that reportedly appeared in the handbook, Atlas Copco of Sweden and Yaskawa of Japan, denied any participation in subsequent correspondence with UANI.

UANI Research Director Daniel Roth told reporters it was “astounding” that European companies are still violating U.S. sanctions and taking the risk of attending the Oil Show, especially in light of the fact that the show’s organizer, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), helps finance Iran’s primary terror apparatus – the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to the U.S. government.

“Washington has the mandate to penalize companies even outside the US through ‘secondary sanctions’ and should be closely monitoring all participants and any deals that transpire,” Roth told Iran International.

Almost five years after sanctions were rightly reimposed on Iran's IRGC-dominated oil industry, there is no earthly reason for foreign companies to still be supporting this sector. To actually go to the effort of sending your own co-workers to exhibit at the Iran Oil Show beggars belief. Beyond the legal and moral hazards, it's incredibly irresponsible with respect to employees' physical safety as they man their stalls in this Lion's Den staffed and enforced by trigger-happy terrorists.”
