Former U.S. Senator Mark Kirk Joins UANI Board of Advisors

Brings Expertise in Foreign Policy, Defense, Intelligence and Cybersecurity Sectors

New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), the bipartisan, not-for-profit advocacy group leading efforts to warn companies and governments around the world of the dangers posed by the Iranian regime, announced today that former U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) has joined the organization's Board of Advisors. Senator Kirk brings 16 years of legislative experience and in-depth knowledge of key U.S.-Iranian issues to UANI's leadership, having served in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Among Senator Kirk's key Congressional roles was his chairmanship of both the Subcommittee on National Security and International Trade and Finance of the Senate Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs Committee and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies.

"Iran continues to demonstrate that it is not yet ready to be a responsible member of the global community, and UANI is doing critical work in exposing the threat the Iranian regime poses to the international community," Senator Kirk said. "I am proud to join UANI and look forward to working with the organization's incredible array of leaders to highlight the serious risks Iran poses to the world."

Senator Kirk served as the junior U.S. Senator from Illinois from 2010 to 2017.  Prior to the U.S. Senate, Kirk represented Illinois' 10th congressional district from 2000-2010 in the U.S. House of Representatives. Earlier in his career, Senator Kirk worked as an officer at the World Bank, served as Special Assistant to the State Department's Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere, and as Counsel to the House International Relations Committee.

"Senator Kirk has been a staunch advocate for U.S. global leadership and the need for more aggressive efforts to thwart Iran's destabilizing influence in the region," said UANI CEO Ambassador Mark Wallace. "His international, financial, and military expertise is a perfect combination that strengthens our global efforts to educate the public about the risks associated with the Iranian regime. UANI is proud to welcome Senator Kirk to our advisory board."

A decorated U.S. Navy Veteran who served as a reserve intelligence officer for 23 years, Senator Kirk worked with the Defense Intelligence Agency in the National Military Command Center and served during Operation ALLIED Force in Kosovo and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan. He retired in 2013 at the rank of Commander and remains a steadfast supporter of veterans' issues and benefits.

"It is a pleasure to be working again with Senator Kirk, especially on the critical issue of Iran," said UANI Chairman and Former U.S. Senator (CT) Joseph Lieberman. "At a time when Iran continues to test the boundaries of the nuclear agreement with ballistic missile tests and shipments of arms to its terrorist proxies, America must remain vigilant. Together with Senator Kirk, we will continue to show that Iran's ongoing support for terrorism and regional aggression will not be tolerated."

This morning, Senators Kirk and Lieberman published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal Europe on the need to reinstate sanctions against Iran at the Financial Action Task Force's plenary meeting in Spain..
