UANI Releases Resource on Rouhani's "World Against Violence & Extremism" Initiative

After 1 Year, Iranian President's Pledge to Promote Tolerance and Justice Rings Hollow in Light of Repression at Home and Violent Activities Abroad

New York, NY - Today, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) released a resource on Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) initiative. During his 2013 speech before the UN General Assembly, Rouhani cynically proposed WAVE, ostensibly to promote “tolerance over violence, progress over bloodletting, justice over discrimination, prosperity over poverty, and freedom over despotism.”

Unfortunately, the ideals espoused under WAVE in no way comport with the record of Rouhani’s government. Rather, WAVE is a rhetorical ploy to mask the Iranian regime’s 35-year record of violence and extremism. As Rouhani returns to New York next week to promote WAVE and continue the practice of Iranian officials misusing UN events as a platform to broadcast their radical ideology and offensive theories, he must be held accountable for his failure to alleviate the international community’s established concerns about  Tehran’s violent oppression of citizens, state sponsorship of terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Al Qaeda, support for the brutal Assad regime in Syria, and refusal to roll back its illicit nuclear program.
