Iran On Notice: A New Wake-Up Call in Fallout from Tehran’s Latest Provocation

The White House’s proclamation is just the latest signal that the policy of intransigence without consequences is finally ending,” UANI says.

New York, NY – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), the advocacy group founded by leading Republican and Democrat national security officials, welcomed National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Michael Flynn’s warning about potential new consequences for Iran’s increasingly “destabilizing behavior” that has rattled America’s traditional allies.

“Iran’s recent ballistic missile test launch is just the latest example of its increasingly reckless behavior in the year since the nuclear deal was implemented. But while Tehran has continually rattled its sabers, Washington has held back – until now,” said UANI Chairman and former U.S. Senator Joseph I. Lieberman.

“As the White House rightly acknowledged, we have reached a turning point in our long history with Iran. We must raise the costs of continued Iranian intransigence. The United States has no shortage of tools at its disposal, and an excellent first step would be to expedite passage of pending legislation in Congress that would sanction entire sectors of Iran’s economy that are tied to its ballistic missile program,” said Senator Lieberman.

“A policy of accommodating Iran in the wake of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has not worked to check Iran’s actions.  Now Iran must understand that it will encounter real consequences if it continues,” said Ambassador Mark Wallace, CEO of UANI.

Led by a group of former leading diplomats and lawmakers, UANI is in the midst of raising world attention about the corporate risks of doing business with Iran, warning hundreds of international companies that are eyeing Tehran as a new investment opportunity.

“The financial, legal and reputational risks are grave: The Iranian regime remains designated as a primary money-laundering concern under U.S. law. Severe risks exist for companies thinking about investing with the Ayatollah, including doing business with the wide array of front companies tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a terrorist organization sanctioned by the United States and the international community; the unavailability and deficiency of insurance coverage; and hacking and cyber-insecurity,” said Wallace.

UANI is an independent, not-for-profit, non-partisan, advocacy group founded in 2008 by Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, former CIA Director Jim Woolsey and Middle East Expert Dennis Ross, that seeks to heighten awareness of the danger the Iranian regime poses to the world.
