UANI Applauds Congressman Klein for His Stance Against Doing Business with Iran

New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) applauds Congressman Ron Klein's statement on Wednesday that U.S. companies and any company receiving U.S. taxpayer dollars should not be doing business with Iran.  Congressman Klein recognizes that Iran's growing economic isolation provides a unique opportunity for action, and is ready to work with Congress to see that action is taken.  On Wednesday, Congressman Klein said "I believe that Congress's responsibility is to ensure that no US entity-and certainly no entity that is receiving taxpayer assistance or contracts-should be helping the Iranian government."

"Congressman Klein's statement sends a clear message that it is time for the U.S. government to stop doing business with companies that do business with Iran.  Corporations that deal with Iran directly support and strengthen a dangerous regime that is developing nuclear weapons, brutally repressing its own people and sponsoring terrorism. Congressman Klein recognizes the strong role the U.S. government must play in removing its tax dollars from the equation.   Again, we applaud Congressman Klein for taking this important stand.  We look forward to partnering with him to reach UANI's goal of stopping Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons." - Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, President, United Against Nuclear Iran

United Against Nuclear Iran on June 30, called for Congress to introduce legislation to ensure that U.S. taxpayer dollars are not paid to companies doing business with Iran.  We also urged further action.  Congress should enact an "Iran Business Certification Act" (the "IBC Act").  Under the terms of the IBC Act any firm or business receiving federal taxpayer funds such as by stimulus spending, bailout support or government contracting will be required to certify that they are not engaged in any business with Iran.  UANI has proposed model language for such an Act.  Click here for more information.

UANI calls on all companies to voluntarily declare themselves to be free of Iranian business by executing a pledge for publication in the Iran Business Registry.  Click here for more information.
