<![endif]-->The New York Times reported that "In their first appraisal of Iran's nuclear program since President Obama took office, atomic inspectors have found that Iran recently understated by a third how much uranium it has enriched, United Nations officials said Thursday. The officials also declared for the first time that the amount of uranium that Tehran had now amassed - more than a ton - was sufficient, with added purification, to make an atom bomb. In a report issued in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency said it had discovered an additional 460 pounds of low-enriched uranium, a third more than Iran had previously disclosed." Ambassador Mark Wallace, President of UANI, penned an oped in the Washington Times on the launch of the IBR. He said "The deepening recession and financial crisis is a global problem. Economies the world over are slowing, businesses are closing, and jobs are being lost. The economic meltdown is causing untold amounts of pain for the United States, its allies, and trading partners." (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/20/reverse-oil-weapon-on-iran/print/)
BBC reported that "Iran offered to stop attacking British troops in Iraq to try to get the West to drop objections to Tehran's uranium enrichment project, a UK official says. The disclosure by UN ambassador Sir John Sawers in a BBC documentary throws new light on backroom discussions between Iran and the West." (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7901101.stm)
The UK Times reported that "Iran has won a $1.5 billion (£1 billion) contract to build 5,000 houses and three hotels in Basra, the Iraqi city where British forces have been fighting Shia extremists believed to be armed by Tehran." Iranian press reported that at Friday prayers in Tehran, "Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani said here Friday that the US should speak with Iran with the language of mutual respect." (http://www5.irna.ir/En/View/FullStory/?NewsId=362698&IdLanguage=3)
The AP reported that "The Pentagon may have mishandled or even lost track of thousands of surplus machine guns, armored vehicles and other pieces of demilitarized equipment sold or provided to foreign governments, according to an internal audit.... The Associated Press reported that buyers for Iran, China and other countries had exploited weaknesses in Pentagon surplus-sale security to obtain sensitive military equipment, including parts for F-14 Tomcats and other aircraft, and missile components. Iran is believed to be the only country still trying to fly Tomcats. The U.S. Navy retired its fleet in 2006." (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1152ap_lost_equipment.html)
