Bloomberg reported that “The U.S. Senate voted to punish companies that sell gasoline to Iran by prohibiting them from supplying the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The measure passed yesterday as an amendment to the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Bill. The Senate agreed by unanimous consent to the amendment, sponsored by Republican Senators Jon Kyl of Arizona and Susan Collins of Maine, according to the Library of Congress Web site.

AP reported that "Iranian police blocked opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi from attending a graveside memorial for victims of post-election unrest after he defied a government ban on the gathering. Mousavi, surrounded by hundreds of supporters, was trying to reach the graveside of Neda Agha Soltan, a young woman whose shooting death at an anti-government rally on June 20 was caught on video that became one of the iconic images of the upheaval. Witnesses said hundreds of police surrounded Mousavi and forced him to leave Behesht-e Zahra cemetery on Tehran's southern outskirts...

The AFP reported that “Iranian hardliners warned Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday to obey the country's supreme leader, piling further pressure on the embattled president following his disputed re-election and a series of controversial political decisions. In a rare gesture to Ahmadinejad's opponents, the authorities on Tuesday freed 140 protesters detained in the wave of massive public demonstrations against his return to office in an election the opposition says was rigged.
